Breast implant size: how to choose the right cc and profile for you

How surgeons choose implant volume and profile from your measurements, how to try sizes before surgery and why bigger is not always better.

Choosing your breast implant size is less about a cup size and more about fit. The right volume (measured in cc) and profile depend on how wide your chest is, how much natural tissue you have and how elastic your skin is. A careful surgeon measures first, then helps you find the look you want within the range your body can safely support. This guide explains how that decision is made, how to try sizes before surgery and how it works if you have your operation in Yerevan, Armenia.

How is breast implant size chosen?

Most plastic surgeons now use a measurement-based approach. The starting point is your breast base width: an implant wider than your own breast tends to sit too far out to the side or towards the armpit, and it is more likely to be visible at the edges.

At the consultation, expect the surgeon to check:

  • Base width of each breast, edge to edge.
  • Soft tissue thickness above the breast and near the fold (the pinch test).
  • Nipple-to-fold distance, relaxed and under stretch.
  • Skin quality and elasticity, and any existing sagging.
  • Asymmetry between the two sides, which almost everyone has to some degree.

From these numbers the surgeon suggests a sensible volume range. Within it, the choice is yours: subtle, natural-looking or more obviously enhanced.

Breast implant size based on height and weight: does it work?

Online breast implant size calculators often ask only for height, weight and current bra size. They can give a rough starting point, but they miss the measurements that matter most. Two women of the same height and weight can have very different chest widths and tissue cover.

The same volume also looks different on different frames. On a narrow chest, 280cc can look full; on a broad back, it may look modest. That is why a reputable surgeon will avoid promising “a C cup” and will talk about proportions instead. Bra sizing also varies by brand and country, which makes cup-based charts even less reliable.

Breast implant sizes and shapes: what does profile mean?

Profile describes how far the implant projects forward relative to its base. Two implants with the same cc can look quite different depending on profile.

Profile Shape Often suits
Low Wide base, gentle projection Broad chest, very soft result
Moderate Balanced width and projection A natural look for many patients
High Narrower base, more projection Narrow chest, or more fullness at the front
Extra high Maximum projection, narrow base Selected cases; puts more strain on tissues

Manufacturers use different names for similar profiles, so compare the actual dimensions in centimetres rather than the label alone.

Breast implant sizers: how to try a size before surgery

Seeing and feeling the volume helps far more than scrolling through other people’s photos. The most common options are:

  1. Clinic sizers: trial implants worn inside a sports bra. Try two or three volumes under a fitted T-shirt and a looser top.
  2. The rice or water test at home: fill a bag with roughly the target volume and place it in your bra. It is approximate, but useful for ruling out extremes.
  3. 3D imaging: some clinics offer it. It helps when discussing proportions, but it is a simulation, not a guarantee.
  4. Reference photos: bring pictures of bodies similar to yours, including results you do not like.

Sizers worn over the breast do not behave exactly like an implant placed under tissue or muscle. Talk this through with your surgeon instead of adding extra cc “just in case”.

What happens if you go too big?

Wanting a visible change is completely valid. But a volume that exceeds what your tissues can support raises some long-term risks:

  • Visible or palpable rippling, especially with thin tissue cover.
  • The implant sitting too low below the fold (bottoming out).
  • Thinning skin and earlier sagging.
  • A higher chance of needing a revision to change size.

Wanting a different size is one of the common reasons for a second operation, so this decision is worth taking slowly. Placement (above or below the muscle) and implant type are part of the same plan; you can read more on our mammoplasty page.

Breast augmentation in Yerevan: consultation, stay and follow-up

If you are considering surgery in Yerevan, sizing starts before you travel. In the online consultation you share front and side photos, your height, weight and current bra size, and the surgeon gives you an initial view. The final choice is made in person, with measurements and sizers, usually the day before surgery.

For breast augmentation, plan on roughly 5 to 7 days in Yerevan. Many surgeons clear patients to fly after the first check-up, but your surgeon decides based on how you are healing. Wear the support bra as instructed and keep moving gently on the flight.

Once you are home:

  • Expect the implants to sit high and feel firm at first, then drop and soften over roughly 3 to 6 months.
  • Do not judge the final size in the first weeks, while swelling is still present.
  • Arrange for a local doctor or plastic surgeon to see you if anything worries you, alongside remote check-ins with your surgeon.

Medarmenia coordinates the online consultation, your personal estimate, transfers, accommodation and an interpreter, and stays in touch after you fly home.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most common breast implant size?

There is no single number that suits everyone, because cc depends on chest width and frame. Most patients end up choosing a volume within the range their surgeon recommends after measuring them, aiming for natural proportions.

Is there a reliable breast implant size chart?

Charts that convert cc into cup sizes are only rough guides. Cup sizes vary between brands, and the same implant looks different depending on your tissue and chest width.

Can I have different implant sizes on each side?

Yes, surgeons often use different volumes to balance asymmetry. The difference is decided from your measurements, and it may not correct asymmetry completely.

Will my breasts look bigger or smaller once the implants settle?

Early swelling can make them look larger and higher at first. As swelling settles and the implants drop, the shape usually looks softer and more natural.

How much does breast augmentation cost in Armenia?

The price depends on the implant type and brand, technique, anaesthesia, nights in hospital and what your travel package includes. We prepare a personal estimate after your consultation.
